Member News (posted 9/3/2008)

Please give your thoughts and prayers to Lance Agnew and his family and Robert Stay and his family. We were informed at the banquet that Lance has been diagnosed with a brain tumor and is awaiting results to determine if it is benign or malignant. Robert Stay had a granddaughter that nearly drowned in a pool and was air lifted to a local hospital.

UPDATE FROM LANCE:
"The surgery just went absolutely well and recovery is also coming along very well.  I came home on Saturday August 16 and just being home and functioning more normal again is a tremendous help and feels great.  I've had tremendous support from family and friends.  The next phase of this involves certain types of treatment which will begin in around 2 weeks." Lance is planning on attending our final meeting on Monday, August 25th. He will speak briefly before the meeting to give us further information.

And of course, we all are aware of Don Thomas's situation. He continues treatment for his cancer and if anything changes, we will certainly let the association know.

As we continue to gather more details on these incidents we will provide more information.

Meetings Underway (posted 7/16/2008)

Our local association meetings are now underway! We had a great first meeting and a big turnout. It was good to see everyone again and you could feel that we all are ready for the new season to begin. Bobby Kelly presented Rule 2 and some good discussion ensued. One point that Don Hammock brought to everyone's attention is that there is NO STATE MANDATORY CREW CHIEFS MEETING THIS YEAR. However, there will be a local GTOA crew chiefs meeting on August 11th. We had approximately 15 newcomers that attended to find out more information about our association or were there to "sign up", be sure that you make them feel welcome during the coming meetings.Since we are only having 8 meetings this year, you must attend 4 to be compliant with the association requirements. If you know of someone who did not attend the first meeting, try to contact them and make sure they know this important information.

GTOA Officials Get Physically Fit (posted 4/1/2008)

Officiating takes more than just rules knowledge and mechanics.  In today's officiating world, physical fitness and appearance is key to your success, especially if you aspire to move to the next level.  Crossfit - Jenks has been working with several GTOA officials on this very issue.

Crossfit - Jenks has a full workout facility located near 91st and Elm in Jenks.  Their basis for fitness is a full body workout, Olympic-style weightlifting, running and nutrition.  Each workout tasks different areas of your body and many workouts are 3 rounds for time (meaning you complete 3 rounds of different exercises in the quickest time possible).  Other exercises include completing 3 different exercise-type rounds, as many as you can do in a 20 minute period.  Plus, there is a 30 minute warm-up time that is a complete full-body workout in itself.

This program only takes an hour out of your day and and is great to prepare for the upcoming season as well as a year-round fitness program to keep you healthy and strong.  If you have questions or are interested, you can speak with Chad Craig, Todd Ragsdale or Ethan Rolen who are currently enrolled in the program and benefiting from the results! For more information on how you can get into this program, contact the owner of CrossFit - Jenks, BreckBerry@crossfitjenks.com.
